With great interest and much review of the International Dysphagia Diet Standardization Initiative, IDDSI, the Blossom Foods team continues its commitment to both the consumer and healthcare facilities to help in the transition. We know it is a lot to understand and believe we can be of help to both. The IDDSI diet level guideline goal is to standardize textured meals.
Since 2008, Blossom Foods has created our menu items in Puree, Ground, and Soft Chop textures following the National Dysphagia Diet guidelines. Today, we continue to offer each of our menu items in these modified size/textures now IDDSI Level 4, 5, and 6 on the IDDSI program. We test each week using their guidelines to assure that we meet the criteria and to be able to offer as many options when it comes to menu planning as possible   more...

What's New?!

Happy February! This month we see the return of the individual servings of our menu items! Thank you all for your patience while we sourced these very valuable cups. We know for many these can be a amazingly helpful in-between meal snack or an actual meal for those not able to eat a full meal. We will get these back into production and on our site as fast as we can. For those wanting to add these now, please call to see what/when they will be available! We are also planning the replacement of the rectangle divided plate for a round, our staff believes more "natural" plate. The black divided round plate will be available once we put together packaging and plate them. There will be many new meal combinations available once these come out, including Vegan and Pasta dishes. These plates will be both microwavable and into the oven if necessary. We continue to work on our Spring menu as we await the arrival of fresh, seasonal vegetables and fruits. We will keep you posted. Our longtime, loved Office Manager, Kharyl, has finished her Master's Degree in Speech Pathology and has accepted a position to begin her career as a Speech Pathologist. We know you were all very fond of her warmth and knowledge of our product and she will be missed by all! We wish her every success!! If you have any suggestions or feedback, remember we love to hear it. We did get suggestions to bring back the hot dog and pizza meal..working on it. Barbecue Ribs, Alfredo with Chicken Pasta are two others we have ready to heat and taste. The Pancake, Blueberry, and Egg breakfast meal is awesome and will also be available soon as will a couple new breakfast combinations. We love what we do and appreciate you as our customer! Enjoy, Sue   more...

Happy New Year!

Yes, the holidays have come and 2019 is here! Our team had a collective great time and we are now back to work! With the new year comes some changes. First, we will move to a Federal Express "2 day Express" shipping. We do this as the weather changes and delays start to increase. We will add additional dry ice to each package and send out 2-3 times a week rather than just 2 days a week. Wednesday will be the last day to ship however we will continue to ship on Thursdays until we all get this right! If you have any concerns, please let us know. This allows us to continue and have our pick-ups on a regular basis with Federal Express. We have sourced the individual cups and hope to have them back in our kitchen by February 15th! Once this happens, we will add back the ability to order individual items. Again, thank you for your patience! New menu items and meals will begin this week, ready for ordering by January 15th. We are hoping to add new breakfast and main meals. We have been asked about Lamb dishes however the process to puree this particular meat is challenging. We are working on a Lamb Stew and will test this next week. Many have asked about the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI and yes, Standardisation is spelled correctly for this). We have tested our diet levels and our Puree diet is Level 4 per the IDDSI standards. Have a great January! Sue   more...

Wow, that time of year, HOLIDAYS and time with friends and family. We love this season. Our shipping for Christmas will end Thursday the 20th. We will be shipping each day the week of December 17th to assure everyone gets their meals. Please order by Monday morning to make sure we get those packages out! If you need any help, feel free to call us so we can do all we can (510-893-3321). We will not be shipping orders the week of December 24-28th. We will resume sending out meals the 2nd of January. The transition to the meals only ordering is now complete as we have been unable to successfully source the individual cups. The good news is we have heard back from our supplier that these cups may return in the spring, allowing us to once again offer the individual options. We are hoping to have the individual cups back in March! Additional meals will begin to be added so that you are able to enjoy a larger selection. We hope to have a menu that consists of not just the 13 current meals but an additional 7 meal choices. Please let us know if there are any items you'd like us to prepare. This could happen in the next 2 weeks so keep checking back. We are also hoping to add additional textures to our ordering of meals to include not only our Puree meals but our ground meals and the chopped meal textures. Please let us know if these textures are important to you and we will do our best to introduce them. Happy Holidays from our entire team at Blossom Foods! Enjoy, Sue A quick and wonderful email we received! Please let us know how we are doing as the entire team is extremely vested in our customers enjoyment at mealtime!! Thank you! You have made this often unbearable situation for people BEARABLE and a PLEASURE! We are also recommending your company to others with swallowing problems. S.   more...

Hello, Individual Customers: As we continue to have difficulty sourcing our individual cups that have been for individual servings, we are now able to only offer our 3 compartment meal options. This will begin November 1, 2018. We apologize for any inconvenience this may pose and appreciate your understanding as we are still able to offer our Puree items. We are working very hard to come up with creative new meals and items. Again, if you have any suggestions, please feel free to contact us. Institutional Customers: International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI): We continue to meet with many hospitals to discuss the proposed diet/texture changes. We are also happy to report that diet level 4, 5, and 6 fit nicely into our textured meal options. Please contact us with questions or to set up your personalized tasting! Enjoy, Sue   more...

We have been getting a lot of questions from our current Healthcare and Institution customers as well as many calls and emails from new institutions (and some individual customers) regarding the diet level proposed changes. As a practicing Speech Pathologist for many years in the past, we adhered to the National Dysphagia Diet. The National Dysphagia Diet has been the long followed standard for texture and liquid consistency throughout the different levels of a Dysphagia diet. With three levels for food textures, Level 1 - Puree, Level 2 - Ground or Mechanically Altered, and Level 3 - Advanced, Mechanical Soft, Soft Chopped, Diced; and three or four levels for liquids: thin, nectar, honey, and you may have heard Spoon thick or pudding thick. Many facilities continue to use the National Dysphagia Diet as their guide in the dysphagia diet. On the forefront of discussion is the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative or IDDSI. The IDDSI plan is to create common terminology and diet levels across international borders. The IDDSI diet framework consists of eight continuous levels: 0-4 drink levels and 3-7 food measurements. There are specific testing levels for each level of the framework. The hope of IDDSI is to roll this framework out within the next several years as the standard in dysphagia diet levels internationally. Blossom Foods and where we fit: Puree: National Dysphagia Diet level 1 and IDDSI level 4 or Extremely Thick Ground: National Dysphagia Diet level 2 and IDDSI level 5 or Minced & Moist Diced/Soft Chopped: National Dysphagia Diet level 3 and IDDSI level 6 Soft and Bite-Sized. We will continue to work with our current healthcare providers and new institutions to better understand the proposed changes. When, and if, the decision is made to follow the National Dysphagia Diet or the IDDSI, Blossom Foods can help in understanding the various textures. To get more information on this, please feel free to contact us at 510-893-3321. You can also get more information on the IDDSI at IDDSI.org. We look forward to the ongoing discussions about these changes. Enjoy, Sue   more...

Hello, We apologize as all shipments received late today through Friday will be held for shipment due to the potential for interrupted service to the East Coast per Federal Express. It has been recommended that all perishable packages not be sent East as the impact of this storm may affect the deliveries. Please feel free to give us a call with any concerns (510) 893-3321. We wish all the best to our friends that are bracing for what looks like a series of storms headed their way. Sue   more...
